Summitt earns coaching honor for sixth time

Arkansas' Shameka Christon has been named the SEC Player of the Year, the league announced Wednesday as it unveiled its annual postseason awards, as voted on by the conference's 12 coaches.

Tennessee's Pat Summitt was named coach of the year, while Ole Miss' Armintie Price was tabbed freshman of the year.

Christon, along with Auburn's Le'Coe Willingham, LSU's Seimone Augustus and Temeka Johnson, Mississippi State's Tan White and Tennessee's Shyra Ely were unanimous first-team members.

LSU was the only team to have multiple first-team members.

Price, Janese Hardrick and Carla Thomas were unanimous all-freshman members.

Florida's Vanessa Hayden was named Defensive Player of the Year, while her Gator teammate Bernice Mosby was named 6th Woman of the Year.

Vanderbilt's Hillary Hager was named the inaugural SEC Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Summitt was named SEC Coach of the Year for the sixth time in her career. The Lady Vols finished the regular season with a 25-2 overall record and a perfect 14-0 conference record.
